“Winter Cottage” is a very good story about Lucy Kincaid. Mary Ellen Taylor is the author of this awesome and beautiful book. This is the telling of three women’s lives. Three generations, all intertwined. At her mother’s death bed, Lucy learns that everything she thought she knew about her mother and self is a lie. She goes to Virginia to claim the home, Winter Cottage; a stranger has left to her. Told in three voices, you find out that Clare, Beth and Lucy are; as necessary secrets become exposed. Lucy’s mother Beth’s dying wish is to have her ashes returned to the place of her youth, a time and place Lucy has no knowledge of. Lucy also wants to find out about her father, something else Beth has never mentioned.
In addition, upon Beth’s death, Lucy finds she has inherited Winter Cottage from Catherine. So her trip to Virginia is three-fold, to honour her mother’s last wish, to find her father, and to claim her inheritance. This is a tale of 3 generations told by Claire (Catherine), Beth, and Lucy. The characters are well developed, However, it all came together beautifully in the end. A compelling mystery and love story.
