An Army at Dawn is the African war, history and WWII guide which describe the events happened during WWII in Africa. Rick Atkinson is the author of this impressive book. Britain’s was interested to get control of the eastern Mediterranean because a large number of Commonwealth and British troop’s camps were in Egypt. Their main role was to protect the oil supplies and defend the Suez Canal from the Persian Gulf. Benito Mussolini was the Italian Fascist dictator who declared war against France and Britain. The Italians wanted to expand their African Empire so they invaded Egypt. In the beginning, they were succeeded and killed thousands of their opponents.
Later on, a Western Desert Force of almost thirty-six thousands soldiers attacked the Italian forces and Italians flee back to Libya about five-hundred miles. The Italian army has a severe loss in which 130,000 men were captured along with the destruction of nine divisions. Hitler also raised to the support of Italians but British army easily manages to get over them. The British army struggle against the Germans but in the end, they manage to cope with them. The Africans fought with bravely and they stood for their country and to protect their sovereignty.
