As the author tells a very personal account of her experience leaving North Korea, arriving and living in China, and then immigrating to South Korea, we learn so much about the three Asian nations from an insider’s view their history and society (deviance and crimes, gender roles, socialization, social stratification, economy and politics, ideologies, customs, and manners, etc). Yeonmi Park lucidly describes and explains where her life and history meets where and when you are born to determine what kind of life you have.
