Why Does He Do That
by Lundy Bancroft
432 Pages · 2015 · 1 MB · 11 Downloads · New!
“Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men” is a wonderful book for anyone in an abusive or potentially abusive relationship, the friends and family of someone in an abusive relationship, psychologists and therapists that work with people in abusive relationships or work with abusers, and really just everyone, because everyone is susceptible to being in a relationship or working around someone who is abusive. Lundy Bancroft is the author of this classy book. This is an essential tool to understanding why a man who claims to love you more than anything else would be so cruel and hurtful to you and say such hurtful words to you without taking responsibility for the pain he causes. Some men can’t help themselves, some men don’t realize what they are doing, some men are insecure and controlling, whatever their reason, no one deserves to be treated or spoken to any time with unkind and unloving words that hurt and destroy, isolate and demean. That is a form of abuse and is probably a worse form of abuse than physical abuse. Read this book and learn the red flags before you get into the relationship too far. If you are already there, then it will help you recognize what is not alright and how to handle it. This book makes clear how and why abusers feel justified in using whatever means necessary to control and dominate their partners, and often, their children. Bancroft also offers numerous suggestions for changing and improving your situation should you discover you are being abused. Bancroft also discusses the various control tactics abusers use to keep their significant others in line and to do their bidding. Women will get significant insight into the men they love but who mistreat them. Most importantly, Bancroft makes it clear from his years of experience in the field, that the abusive man is not ‘out of control’ when he acts abusively but is attempting to obtain what he feels he deserves – control over his subjects. Also very helpful is the way Bancroft looks into the history of the abuse and oppression of women across cultures. Bancroft makes a plea for our society to become more aware of the widespread nature of domestic abuse. He offers suggestions on how anyone can get involved in bringing about positive change in this area.

It is a good compelling story, engaging, and easy to read. This is the perfect holiday novel, you can pick it up and get straight back into the story. The novel “The Miracle Morning for College” is an enjoyable story that moves along at a good pace. It is not too quickly, but at a pace that keeps the reader engaged waiting to discover the outcome. It has a satisfactory ending which is a little predictable but ties up all the loose ends. Some of the male characters are a little too good to be true but that doesn’t spoil any part of the story. The author switches between the two time periods effortlessly and easily which doesn’t always happen in these kinds of books. Each storyline had a richness that was only strengthened by the comparison and contrast to the other.
