by Anton Nijholt
The “Brain Art: Brain-Computer Interfaces for Artistic Expression” is an informative book about brain-computer interfaces. Anton Nijholt is the author of this educational book. Anton studied mathematics and computer science at the Technical University of Delft and holds a Ph.D. degree in theoretical computer science from Amsterdam. He is a Professor of Computer Science in the Human Media Interaction group, University of Twente, The Netherlands. AntonNijholt main research interest was in entertainment computing, affective computing, multimodal interaction, and brain-computer interfacing. He has hundreds of scientific publications, including computer history books and all of them are worth to read. Brain Art is one of the first books on brain-computing interfaces. He describes some devices that can measure brain activity in a different region of our brain.
Brain activity can also be checked to find out about the affective state of a performer. This knowledge is used to create an interactive multi-sensorial piece of art, such as audio, visual. Anton Nijholt tells about the effect on the brain and makes it possible to translate such external stimuli to decisions that help to implement or interactive installation. Furthermore, the author shares some researches about human-computer interaction, brain-computer interaction, psychology, social science, and neuroscience. All in all, Brain Art is a perfect book for all peoples who want to learn about brain-computer interfaces used for the artistic application.
